Unveiling Pressure Control in Excavator Hydraulic Wrist Systems

I. The Flow Magic of Hydraulic Pumps
Hydraulic pressure control in the excavator’s boom wrist begins with the hydraulic pump—the “heart” of the system. By adjusting the swashplate angle, the pump can regulate oil flow just like a faucet: the larger the angle, the more hydraulic fluid is pumped and the higher the pressure generated. When the operator gently pushes the control lever, the swashplate tilts slightly, allowing oil to flow smoothly; when the lever is pushed all the way, the swashplate deflects substantially, causing high-pressure oil to surge out instantaneously.
II. The Precise Dance of Control Valves
The key to pressure control lies in the seamless coordination of the hydraulic valve manifold:
Main control valve: Acts like a traffic officer, directing the flow of hydraulic fluid and determining the location where pressure is applied.
Relief valve: Acts as a safety sentinel, automatically diverting flow when pressure exceeds the set limit.
Proportional valve: finely adjusts flow to achieve millimeter-level precision.
These valves are interlocked via electrical signals, enabling minute movements of the control handle to be translated into precise pressure adjustments.
III. The Art of Human-Machine Collaboration
Even the most advanced systems cannot do without operational experience:
When excavating hard objects, short, high-pressure impacts are required.
When handling fragile items, maintain stable low pressure.
During composite operations, multi-way pressure distribution is controlled via handle travel.
